Inclusion is easy, it just takes effort – this is the belief that drives Scott Sumner and sees him as an Inclusive User Experience Manager with Centre for Inclusive Design. The epiphany came to Scott when he saw business opportunities being passed over because savings were being put ahead of designs that would, over time, be both inclusive and cost effective. This scenario annoyed Scott, as he saw money could be made by designing to include people. He couldn’t understand why businesses were so slow and, in some cases, deliberately avoiding following inclusive design dimensions.

Like most people who are introduced into the field, the broader beneficial impact of inclusive design is what attracted Scott – the idea of designing inclusively to benefit people beyond the initial target, which flows onto an economic benefit for the business. This dimension lead Scott to the understanding teams of diverse people, from differing experiences with the tools and confidence to design can create truly unique experiences.
